Digestarom® Bos is the new name for the popular phytogenic feed additive for calf milk
replacer, calf starter and beef diets globally.
The decision to rename Digestarom® Milk followed the company’s July streamlining of the Digestarom® product portfolio in order to deliver even greater value to customers.
“Digestarom® Bos is the same reliable product that customers have been using for years to get the most from their animals,” stated Michael Noonan, Global Product Manager Phytogenics at BIOMIN.
Digestarom® Bos, whose name is derived from the Latin word for cattle, is formulated to the production stage requirements from calves to adult beef animals.
Production benefits
“Through many trials, Digestarom® has been shown in commercial conditions to increase feed intake, a key driver of performance in both dairy and beef animals,” said Mr Noonan.
Supporting a calf’s feed intake, particularly prior to weaning, is associated with higher lifetime milk production. One kilogram of pre-weaning average daily gain (ADG) translates into a 1550 kilogram increase in milk yield in the first lactation, according to scientific research. Higher feed intake correlates with improved beef production in terms of average daily gain.
Further advantages
Digestarom® has been recognized for its ability to improve the ruminal environment in terms of pH, resulting in lower incidence of sub-acute ruminal acidosis (SARA), its anti-inflammatory properties and acceleration of rumen development.
Digestarom® Bos complements the existing phytogenic feed additive ruminant portfolio, which includes Digestarom® Dairy. As part of the announcement, two products –Digestarom® Calf and Digestarom® Beef– have been discontinued in all regions except North America.
