Charoen Pokphand Foods PLC (CPF) has launched a new, low CO2-emitting layer feed.
Dr Pairat Srichana, Charoen Pokphand Group’s senior vice president for Feed Technology, said the innovative, environmentally friendly formula was developed with the right balance of amino acids and enzymes for poultry at different growth stages and has been registered with Thailand’s Department of Livestock.
The feed can reduce nitrogen excretion by 12-13% and CO2 emissions by 103 tons/year and reduce odor.
CPF will use the low-carbon feed to feed its layer hens. CPF began using eco-friendly feed at its pig farms in Thailand in 2018 to reduce nitrogen emissions in manure by 20-30% and CO2 by 23,000 tons.
The feed is now used at CPF hog operations in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines, China, Taiwan and Russia. The company estimates that the feed reduces greenhouse gases by more than 41,000 tons of CO2 equivalent/year.
