China’s agriculture ministry has confirmed a new African Swine Fever outbreak in the city of Zhaotong in Yunnan province which borders Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar.
The disease was found on two farms in Zhaotong with a total of 545 pigs dead.
Beijing has culled nearly 200,000 swine since the ASF outbreak began earlier this year.
The cull has had a negligible impact on overall herd numbers, but prices for pork in China have soared 25% since July because the outbreak forced the authorities to impose control measures on the country’s entire pork supply chain.
