Brazil’s is stepping up health surveillance measures with the aim of preventing the entry of African swine fever (ASF).

Besides screening international visitors arriving by air or ship from infected areas and promoting biosecurity awareness in the country, Brazil will fight ASF by increasing surveillance of live pigs, genetic material, pork and by-products from at-risk countries and expedite monitoring efforts inside the country.

Brazil’s last outbreak of ASF occurred in 1984. The country has been declared ASF-free ever since.
