The Thai Agriculture Ministry targets reducing off-season rice cultivation in 2018/2019 from 12.2 million rai (1.9 million hectares) to two million (0.32 million hectares), said Lak Wajananawatch, deputy minister.
The ministry will apply zoning based on soil mapping and advise farmers to grow crops that are compatible with their soil types, such as corn and soybeans, instead of off-season rice.
